MANIMAHESH LAKE , INDIA

 MANIMAHESH LAKE , INDIA

                                                 TRAVEL ROUND BY DHRUV

The Manimahesh Lake is situated Twenty-six kilometers from Bharmour in the Budhil valley , one of the chief pilgrimage spots in Himachal Pradesh. The lake is situated at an altitude of 13,000 feet at the foot of the Kailash peak (18,564 ft). Every year, on the eighth day of the light half of the moon in the month of Bhadon, a fair is held at this lake, which attracts thousands of pilgrims who assemble here to take a dip in the holy water.

Lord Shiva is the presiding deity of this fair / jatra. He is believed to reside in Kailash. A rock formation in the shape of a Shivling on Kailash is considered to be the manifestation of Lord Shiva. The snowfield at the base of the mountain is called Shiva’s Chaugan by the local people.

Mount Kailash is considered as invincible. No one has so far been able to scale this peak despite the fact that much taller peaks, including Mount Everest have been conquered many times. One story goes that once a Gaddi tried to climb the mountain alongwith his herd of sheep. He is believed to have been turned stone alongwith his sheep. The series of minor peaks below the principal peak are believed to be the remains of the ill-fated shepherd and his flock.

There is yet another legend according to which a snake also attempted to climb this peak but failed and was turned into stone. It is also believed that the devotees can have a view of the Kailash peak only if the Lord is pleased. Bad weather, when the peak is hidden behind clouds, is a sign of the Lord’s displeasure.

At one corner of the Manimahesh lake is a marble image of Shiva which is worshipped by the pilgrims who visit this place. After bathing in the holy waters, the pilgrims go around the circumference of the lake three times. The lake and its surroundings present a majestic view. The quiet waters of the lake carry the reflection of snow capped peaks that carry over the valley.

Manimahesh is approached from different routes. Pilgrims from Lahaul-Spiti come through Kugti pass. Some from Kangra and Mandi come via Kawarsi or Jalsu passes. The easiest route is from Chamba and runs through Bharmaur. At present buses ply upto Hadsar via Bharmour. Beyond Hadsar, the pilgrims have to trek for 13 kms to reach Manimahesh.Between Hadsar and Manimahesh is an important halting place known as Dhanchho where pilgrims usually spend a night. There is a beautiful waterfall.

About one and half kilometers short of Manimahesh lake fall two religiously important water bodies called Gauri Kund and Shiva Krotri where as per popular belief Gauri and Shiva bathe respectively. The women pilgrims do take holy dip in Gauri Kund and the men pilgrims in Shiva Krotri before proceeding to Manimahesh lake.

ADIYOGI TEMPLE , INDIA

 ADIYOGI TEMPLE , INDIA

WELCOME TO THE ANOTHERBLOG OF

                                                           TRAVEL ROUND BY DHRUV

RECOGNIZED BY THE #GUINNESS BOOK OF WORLD RECORDS as the world’s largest bust sculpture, the Adiyogi statue depicts the Hindu deity, Shiva, in 500 tonnes of steel.

Surrounded by lush green farms, coconut groves, and the Velliangiri hills, the towering Adiyogi stands 112 feet tall in Coimbatore, India and celebrates Shiva, the first yogi. Shiva is popular in many forms across the land but depicting the deity as the ‘first Yogi’ is not common.

The height of 112 feet symbolizes the 112 methods to obtain freedom—or moksha—a theme in yogic culture. It’s also said the height represents the 112 chakras, points of focus in the body used in meditation.

The structure, which was inaugurated in February 2017,  is owned and maintained by a non-profit and non-religious organization called Isha Foundation. It was made to remind the world about inner transformation and liberation. According to Sadhguru Jaggi Vasudev, founder of the Isha Foundation, “#AdiYogi is a reminder for humanity to shift from religion to responsibility.”

Despite the overtones of Hinduism at Adiyogi, it is a non-religious place. People of any faith and religion are welcome to visit Adiyogi and partake in many of the events that unfold in the shadow of Shiva.

The Isha Foundation often holds games, cultural programs, discourses, dinners and other events of camaraderie in front of the statue. At the base of the bust is a quaint shrine where visitors can chant or meditate. Unlike traditional Indian temples or meditation spots, here visitors are allowed to take selfies with #Adiyogi.

Bharat Mata Mandir (meaning "Mother India Temple") is located on the Mahatma Gandhi Kashi Vidyapith campus in Varanasi, India. Instead of traditional statues of gods and goddesses, this temple has a huge map of undivided India carved in marble. This temple is dedicated to Bharat Mata and claims to be the only one of its kind in the world.
Bharat Mata Mandir was constructed in 1936 by freedom fighter Babu Shiv Prasad Gupta and was inaugurated by Mahatma Gandhi. The temple is built on the campus of Mahatma Gandhi Kashi Vidyapith.
The temple is not a new construction in Varanasi, which has been a religious pilgrim's favourite in northern India. The temple is considered unique for its display of the map of Undivided India on marble. The map of Undivided India has nothing to do with the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh's (RSS) views of Akhand Bharat or with Prime Minister Narendra Modi's election from the Lok Sabha constituency in 2014.
The Bharat Mata Mandir is located in the Mahatma Gandhi Kashi Vidyapeeth campus. The temple was constructed by Babu Shiv Prasad Gupta in pre-Independence India at a time when Mahatma Gandhi was taking charge of national movement for freedom from British colonial rulers. The Gupta family still takes care of the building.
Construction of Bharat Mata Mandir began in 1918 and completed in 1924. Mahatma Gandhi inaugurated the Bharat Mata Mandir in Varanasi on October 25 in 1936. Twentieth century Hindi poet Maithili Sharan Gupt, fondly called Rashtra Kavi (national poet) composed a poem on the inauguration of the temple which is also put up on a board in the building.
The Bharat Mata Mandir displays a map of Undivided India in the centre of the building showing Afghanistan, Pakistan including Balochistan, Bangladesh, Myanmar as Burma and Sri Lanka as Ceylone marble brought from Makrana (now in Pakistan).
The map has a detailed layout of 450 mountain ranges and peaks, vast plains, water bodies, rivers, oceans and plateaux. The map also shows the scale and depth of the geographical entities mentioned on it.

The water bodies depicted in the map are filled with water and the land areas are decorated with flowers on the Republic Day and the Independence Day,

The Bharat Mata Mandir was constructed under the guidance of Durga Prasad Khatri. It bears the names of 30 workers and 25 masons who were engaged in construction of the temple. Their names are mentioned on the plaque in one corner of the building.

One inch of the area in the map covers 6.40 miles on land and from a window installed at the ground level in the basement, the difference among the heights of the various peaks is clearly visible.
